Our Hiring Process

Stage 1

Applied 📩

Our application process is simple, we just ask you to answer a few questions and upload your CV.

Before you do… here are some of our top tips
  • Read our blog post to get a feel for how we communicate with customers
  • We also recommend browsing the Life at FreeAgent blog to get an idea of our working environment
  • We're hoping to hire a human for this vacancy, so we’d like to see your own thoughts and experiences in your application, not those generated by an AI tool
  • Please include dates (month and year) for education and employment. It's also helpful to briefly note the reason for leaving previous roles
  • We’re happy to consider reasonable adjustments during the process or on the job. You’ll have the option to share details of any support needed in the application form

Stage 3

First interview

Location: Video interview on Google Meet
Who you’ll meet: Senior members of the team
Duration: Around one hour
Focus areas: A structured interview with senior members of the design team. The purpose is to assess your interest in the role and your relevant knowledge, skills and experience. This stage is a great opportunity for you to ask questions about the role or life on the FreeAgent design team.
Stage 4

Final interview

Location: Face to face interview in our office at Edinburgh Quay, EH3 9QG
Who you’ll meet: Stakeholders and members of the design team
Duration: Around 90 minutes
Focus areas: Ahead of the interview you'll be asked to work on a design exercise in your own time.
On the day you'll present your work; chatting through the exercise usually takes around 20 minutes, followed by some questions from the team to find out more about the thinking and process behind your solution.
We also like to take around 10 minutes to hear about a case study from your portfolio, one that really gives you the opportunity to share your design skills.
We then move on to some standard interview topics covering collaboration and teamwork, including how you navigate a cross-functional team. We also encourage you to bring any questions you have to make sure the opportunity feels right for you!
Stage 5
